Work Related Injuries

Most work injuries are caused by overuse and repetitive stress injuries. Overtime, small tasks done with poor posture can lead to acute and chronic pain, which can result in reduced worker productivity, lost time from work, disability, and an inability to perform job tasks.  We can help reduce and reverse the effects of injuries caused by repetitive motion,  posture, and lifting habits.

John D. Marlow R.N., D.C.

Dr. John Marlow is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Chiropractic in 1991.

He is also a registered nurse, so is able to draw on his medical knowledge in diagnosing and treating patients.

Dr. Marlow has treated:

  • Sports injuries
  • Back, neck, knee, shoulder and wrist pain
  • Pregnant Women
  • People of all ages: young children to the elderly

Dr. Marlow says:
Many times a person comes to me with a special complaint-neck or back pain, for example.  Before anyone is treated, I take a thorough medical history.  During this time my most important role is to listen.  My registered nurse's training has honed my listening and observation skills-allowing me to serve my patients better.  What is the patient really saying?  How is she acting?  What's going on with him?
Then I do a complete examination, and if needed, refer a new patient to get an X-ray, scan, MRI or other tests.
When I have studied everything I have learned about the patient I then put together an unique and detailed treatment plan to make sure the patient gets the individual care they need to become well and whole again.
I believe that Chiropractic care is an important part of a persons overall wellness.  Many people have regularly scheduled adjustments on a periodic basis.

               Your gut the "second brain"

Did you know humans have two brains? The brain in the head is filled with neurons and is busy directing the body in all it's complex funtions. The second brain is in the gut, also known as the alimentary canal.

Michael Gershon, chairman of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at New York–Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center explains, "The second brain consists of sheaths of neurons embedded in the walls of the long tube of our gut, or alimentary canal, which measures about nine meters end to end from the esophagus to the anus. The second brain contains some 100 million neurons, more than in either the spinal cord or the peripheral nervous system."

Why is this important? Many times the health of our body can be discerned in the gut.  All of us have experienced "butterflis in the stomach" when we have a stressful situation coming up.  We may have felt a "gut feeling" about someone or something that latter proved to be true. When we have been eating less than healthy food our gut will be sure to let us know.

The gut can be a red light that something in our lives needs to be changed or adjusted.  Eating healthy foods, exercising, destressing, and getting regular adjustments can help our gut to funtion properly.  Listen to your "second brain." A healthy gut is a healthy body!

Patient Testimonials

At Southwest Back and Neck Clinic, we are grateful for our wonderful patients. Read some of our unsolicited testimonials!

April 7, 2008                                                                                                               Being a professional glass artist, an ability to maintain a high level of physical performance is as essential to my work as it would be to a professional athlete.  I was having issues with both my hip and my knee, and had been previously working with a different local chiropractor renowned for his work with professional athletes.  What that doctor had failed to correct, Dr. John accomplished in a single visit.  I've been without pain or discomfort since that visit, and it is without reservation that I give my highest recommendation of the services of Dr. John.

I've been to many chiropractors, and simply put, Dr. Marlow is the best.  He's the best because he has great technical skills - he knows chiropractic methods inside and out.  But of equal importance - he genuinely cares.  Because of that, he really focuses on doing everything possible to give me the pain relief and wellness I'm looking for.   And he's a great guy, very friendly and easy to work with.   I recommend him highly!

March 26, 2008

I have been going to Dr. John for about two years for both maintenance and repairs when golf swing or gardening gets out of control.  He has done an excellent job of keeping me flexible and feeling great.  Always happy to refer a friend or client to him.

- Gary W. Hofstad

Dr. Marlow says:  I want my patients to feel better after their injury and just as important I want them to achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness for the long term.
